Jewellery and other uses

In Kmt (pronounced Kemet), which is Ancient Egypt, jewellery played an important role, not only was it used for decorative purposes it also had a magical and religious significance that would protect the wearer.

Pendants hanging from chains and strings were designed to protect giving power over evil, harm, illness as well as to provide strength, which is why they were found to be worn on the chest of the living and of the dead (Mummies).

Protective amulets were particularly popular, people would adorn themselves with gemstones such as Amethyst, Carnelian, Jasper, Malachite, Turquoise and of course Lapis Lazuli. In fact, Kmt considered the shape of an eye made of Lapis lazuli to be an amulet of great power.

Lapis Lazuli is said to strengthen spiritual awakening, enhance wisdom, be protective and is known as the stone of Gods.

The versatility of Lapis Lazuli is remarkable this gem would be ground up and the pigment used for paints by artist, as cosmetics for eyeshadow, and even as an eye wash when soaked in water.

Colour Symbolism

Colour had a symbolic meaning during these ancient times and still does to this very day. For example, the colour blue is associated with the Sky, Heaven and the Sun God, Ra. Even the throat chakra responds to the colour Blue by placing gemstone like lapis lazuli or aquamarine on the throat is said to be soothing as well as help one to speak their truth clearly. This colour symbolism was in fact more important to Ancient Egyptians than the quality of materials used.
